The Youmu (妖夢, LIT., "CATASTROPHIC ILLUSION"), as they call themselves, is a family of individuals dating back to the origins of the ninja world. The initial Youmu family was made up of individuals who had sought alternate explanation to the concept and existence of chakra and rather saw it as a connection and outpouring of the spiritual and supernatural world upon the world of the living. That is, rather than believing that chakra was something from within they believed that it's existence and power was chiefly fueled by the existence of spirits granting individuals their power if only for a time.

These beliefs were so entrenched upon the original family that the entire structure of their jutsu was affected and created around it's principles. The Wisp - or Will-o'-the-wisp, Jack o'Lantern, Ghost-Light, Orbs as it's by others, are seen to be the manifestation of those very spirits that grant them power into the real world. However, even this is the tip of the iceberg in terms of dominance and influence of spirits in the jutsu of a Youmou, as they contact a myriad of other spirits to do their bidding as well, and due to the nature of such can no longer manipulate elemental chakra in a conventional way.

2. This clan overtakes one's clan slot and all available elemental slots.
3. A clan member can never learn conventional Ninjutsu. This restriction is limited to all elemental jutsu including any releases, advanced releases, and genjutsu. However, this does not include universal ninjutsu, fuuinjutsu, and taijutsu (except those that require a release).

Masteries

[/b] Due to the nature of a Youmou's techniques they do not need to utilize handseals in the same way a traditional ninja does. Rather, the Youmou simply channels for the period of time relating to how long it would take a conventional ninja to complete their handseals.

-Tier 2 - Spiritual Medium: By proving their worth a Youmou of this level gains the ability to summon forth two spirits at once and use their abilities at will without any hassle. The only restriction being that if these spirits are elementally aligned they cannot be elementally juxtaposed (e.g. a fire spirit and a water spirit).

-Tier 3 - Spiritual Possession, Avatar of the Source: By reaching the highest level of sympathy with their spirit a Youmou can allow the spirit to take over their body. During this period the Youmou gains immense power and ability in a thematic area according to spirit. Each spirit indexed or custom can possess the user, and each spiritual possession will be different for any one Youmou. Each possessed form must go through customs like a normal technique would, and follow a specific format. Possessed forms grant the user the ability to use any technique the spirit can/would use, but none of the others. If the spirit is elemental the user in possessed form takes lessened damage from correlating element but additional damage from opposed element. Any one youmou can only have one avatar form at a time, and is restricted to changing which possessed form they can take on only thrice in a lifetime and never in the middle of a thread.

Kitsunebi (Will O' Wisp)

Chakra Consumption: Low per Wisp
The basis of all Youmou clan fire techniques; this creates a Will O' Wisp that follows the caster around up to a maximum of five meters away. Mysteriously, though it wavers like a flame, it has no heat and does no damage by itself. The wisp in this form can be sent anywhere at one-half typical ninja speed, though must retain a distance of five meters from any humanoid target. These wisps is intangible, unable to be snuffed out or destroyed directly.

Note: This technique can only be used once per turn, and anywhere between one and five wisps can be created.

An offensive jutsu created to turn the otherwise harmless wisps into something that is more threatening. After the initial handseals, the user can will any group of wisps - which wisps are affected is mentally chosen by the user, tangible and force them to rush at any opponent or object they have line of sight of at the time. Wisps which are affected by this travel at normal ninja speed and have a napalm-like effect. If they come into contact with anything be it the target or anything in between, they will 'explode' into a shower of smaller balls of fire. These smaller balls of fire will land upon any physical surface and linger for a time of one post burning brightly and exhuming a great amount of heat that can cause worse-than-minor burns, mild hyperthermia, and subsequently set other things on fire. The damage done is scaled depending on how many wisps actually hit the target.

Note: Only one 'group' of wisps may be active in this form at a time, though there is no upward limit of how many wisps encompass the group.


Konpaku Kasai-Shinkirou (Spirit Fire Mirage)

An unusual jutsu used to confuse and dissuade an attacking opponent, spirit fire mirage uses the properties of the wisps' heat to veil the user outwardly. After handseals a wisp is 'consumed', by the process and thereby enacts the effect of the technique, creating a localized mirage around the caster. The heat from the wisp is directed outward and bended about the users frame to cloak them in the heat. The difference in temperature of the heated air around the user's frame and away from it cause an usual diffusion in light which causes the user to seem blurred and appear to be slightly further away from the spot they actually are. This makes it hard for an opponent to properly aim for the user due to the fact that they cannot make an accurate assumption of where the user is standing.

Note: For every two wisp consumed in the technique's casting process the effects are increased by one turn. This is not an illusion of any kind - genjutsu, but is rather is an exploit of a property of air and light.


Sodai Konpaku no Kasai Gekihatsu (Grand Spiritual Flame Burst)

A straight up offensive jutsu that gets stronger with the number of wisps used as catalyst for the attack. Every wisp is gathered together and becomes what is essentially a giant wisp and then explodes. The effect of the explosion triggered is directly correlated to the number of wisps used, with every five wisps widening explosion radius by five meters. A shower of smaller sparks of wisp-like material follows this technique which can set other flammable material on fire.

This jutsu makes the basis for all Youmou clan water-based techniques, as it summons forth the spirit of a fish, of which promptly attaches to the user forearm, becoming a sort of gauntlet. The fish's maw is locked upon and faces outward toward the fingertips from just above the forearm. Unlike the wisp, when the Koi attaches to user's forearm it becomes corporeal and vulnerable to attack. If any technique of higher caliber directly strikes the gauntlet it will instantly dissipate and the technique must be recast. Likewise, if any technique of raiton nature strikes the user, the technique will instantly dissipate.

By siphoning chakra into the Totto-Ishi gauntlet the user forces it to generate a fist-sized ball of water which appears just outside of the gauntlet's maw. This ball of water is highly condensed and pressurized and can be held indefinitely as long as it's upkeep fee is paid. Upon contact the ball of chakra and water explodes with a large amount of force. The ball of chakra and water itself also on contact feels as though it was made of solid rock.

Note: This technique can be held held so long as the upkeep fee is paid, if the fee cannot or is not paid for any reason the water encompassing the technique simply succumbs to gravity and pools as normal water would.

Mizu Ueebu Uneri Kakou (Water Wave Motion Shield)

A versatile defensive technique, after chakra is properly channeled into the gauntlet a forward shield of water is created. By changing the surface tension of the water and it's general pressure this initial one meter circle of water can withstand an attack of it's caliber or below and can be held so long as the upkeep fee is paid. Additionally, so long as a second has passed since the shield was created or previously attacked, it's form can shift into any shape the youmou desires.

By adding additional chakra either during the process of creation of the water cannon shot or during the time by which it is held the user can add an additional property to the shot, the ability to bounce. This allows allows any cannon shot imbued with it to bounce five times. The user is given the ability to decide whether or not it should bounce so long as they can maintain proper eye contact with the ball. When eye contact is lost the ability to decide whether or not it will bounce is lost and it will simply explode on impact like normal.

By becoming one with the very earth itself a Youmou can summon forth the spirit of nature, a giant humanoid golem over fifty feet tall. This golem, like the wisp, is incorporeal upon summoning and does nothing more than stand in the shadow of the youmou clumsily mimicking their movements. To naked eye unaided eye the golem is barely visible and seemingly mist-like.

By siphoning their chakra into the earthen spirit golem a Youmou can make the golem's arm temporarily corporeal to be used for an attack. The golem's arm, made of earth, maintains the correct dimensions of about twenty-five feet by 10 feet (7 x 3 meters). This arm follows the movements of the user's own arm flawlessly and can be used for attack until it meets a technique of greater caliber or makes contact with any surface five times. Additionally, the youmou can double the amount of chakra used for the technique to simultaneously summon a second arm, or double the amount of uses of the one arm. Which and if such is done is chosen at the end of the handseals.

After handseals the earth spirit's foot is briefly manifested and immediately slams down upon the ground. The sudden slamming down of the earth spirit's foot raises a 10 x 10m area of land overturning it upward. This overturned rectangle of land can be used defensively to block jutsu of any caliber of it's rank or below. Additionally, the sudden stomp produces a shockwave which carries into the ground and causes uneasy footing for any person in the immediate area save the caster.

By imbuing the earth titan with a great amount of chakra the Youmou forces it to become completely corporeal. This allows the earth titan to move freely and independently as far as the Youmou wishes for it to go. During this techniques duration the Youmou itself loses the ability to use the rest of the earth titan-based techniques, but the titan itself gains a power and durability befitting it's stature. Though the Youmou does not incur an upkeep fee and the earth titan is durable, it does have finite durability. It can incur several direct blows of lower caliber and can only be completely destroyed by a technique of it's caliber or higher. The earth titan cannot be completely defeated unless it's 'torso' area is destroyed, it can continue on fighting limbless if the youmou so wished.

By willing forth the spirit of thunder, the Youmou manifests an incorporeal spirit taking the form of a traditional chinese dragon. This dragon snakes up the user's frame, it's body growing bigger, until it reaches above the head of the caster growing even larger and snaking even higher to a full length of ten meters. The spirit of thunder to the naked unaided eye seems mist-like and translucent, a mere shadow behind the user.

By channeling the spirit of thunder's thunder chakra into one of their hands the user can briefly allow it to snake around their hand and beyond to it's full extension of ten meters. The dragon briefly becomes corporeal and ebs thunder about it's frame and subsequently the length of the user's hand. This hand and dragon extension can then be used for a single offensive attack of which on contact offloads a massive electrical surge into the first thing it makes contact with. This electrical surge if made contact squarely with a human body will render them incapacitated and battered due to it's destructive force, and if made contact in any other way will simply offload only a portion of said charge leaving the area limp.

By channeling chakra directly into the head of the thunder spirit, the user gains access to use of it's thundering roar. This roar stretches out for thirty meters and carries with it a strong electromagnetic pulse. This electromagnetic pulse will instantly incapacitate any electronic device for exactly five posts or until the thread's end. During the time of which the device is incapacitated it cannot be used at all and is 'felt' by the user. This feeling is simply a strong impulse of understanding that the device exists and is electronic in nature.

The ultimate technique in the thunder spirit's arsenal this technique allows the Thunder Spirit to become completely corporeal. During the period in which it is corporeal it will have access to all of the tertiary techniques in the thunder spirit tree. Additionally, the frame of the thunder dragon is covered with a continual surge of thunder chakra of which on contact will a surface will discharge a surge of electricity which can cause severe numbness to organic material. The thunder spirit in this form can be destroyed by a technique of it's caliber or higher, and although it will not take significant damage from lower techniques it will take some being ever so briefly flesh and blood.

The Youmou clan's chief spirit of wind differs a bit from the rest of the spirits. Unlike the rest of the spirits it does not take on a specific form but rather is the purest of spirits, simply being the embodiment of wind. Each member manifests the spirit differently though on the same fundamental line, the spirit always manifests as a pair of incorporeal wings upon the user's back. The style and color of wing differs from individual to individual, and can be as simplistic as white wings or as intricate as a peacocks feathers. This spirit does nothing on it's own but take this incorporeal form.

A simple technique, after channeling the correct amount of chakra the user forces the incorporeal wings to become corporeal. When the wings do become corporeal they imbue the user with flight (though do not actually functionally act like wings i.e. flap). This flight can be sustained indefinitely so long as the upkeep is paid and the wings aren't destroyed through direct attack of higher caliber.

Note: The flight speed of this technique is always equivalent to the user's natural movement speed.

By gathering and channeling chakra to the wind spirit wings, the Youmou is granted the ability to summon forth a very localized cyclone. Once the proper amount of chakra is gathered, their wings can be flapped in any direction they wish to push forth a cyclone from the projected wind. The cyclone is not generated instantaneously and must travel at least two meters before forming into a full cyclone of 15 x 5 meters, of which then it will only rage on for a single turn. One the subsequent turn the cyclone expels the remaining energy of it's winds in all directions for 10 meters. This wind expulsion cannot harm the caster.

Note: The cyclone travels at speed of a normal ninja.

Quite possibly the strongest of the five cardinal Youmou spirit's techniques, this technique allows for the complete nullification of one wind-based technique regardless of rank or cost. The original Youmou were never able to completely understand the phenomena behind the technique but believed that it was something akin to how the eye of a hurricane or storm always seemed to be completely calm. The wind spirit itself seems to be able to identify the cost and nature of the technique to be nullified and then extract the proper amount of chakra necessary to counteract it.

Note: The ratio for nullification is always 1 to 1, e.g. a wind technique that cost a massive amount of chakra will cost a massive amount to be nullified.
