Clean-up Crew of One (Mission)

Generally speaking, trash cleaning wasn't his forte. He didn't have a forte to speak of, but that wasn't the point. Honestly, the mission report made it sound lie some gang was purposefully going around and littering. Kanshin most definitely wasn't suited to bending over and picking up bits of garbage, over and over, simply because someone wasn't up to the task of finding a proper trash receptacle.

He was, however, in dire need of funds. Poverty is quite the motivator.

Still, it wasn't like it was some grand conspiracy that was being perpetrated under everyone's noses while they went about their day. Really, it was probably just the imagination of an overtired worker. Still, pay was pay, and this was all he had time for right now. Kicking a few pieces of rubbish into a pile, he deftly picked them up and tossed them in a nearby trash can. This particular street didn't seem to be too cluttered, which only seemed to reinforce the idea of an overactive imagination from a file jockey.

Walking to and fro, Kanshin cleared the street of rogue litter and apprehended more than twenty suspicious boxes. All in all, it seemed to be a job well done. Right up until he glanced to the second story wall in front of him. A number of words not suitable for polite company for scrawled in paint, adjoined by a caricature of what looked to be a grouchy shopkeeper. Now the job got a little more complicated.

"Well. That's just fan-freaking-tastic."

Sighing, he rounded up a bucket of water and some soap. Briefly entertaining the idea of just throwing the water at the wall, he lifted the bucket up and started climbing. He still had issues fighting gravity while walking up, but it would probably fade with some practice. Thoroughly mixing the water and soap, he knelt down and started scrubbing, occasionally forcing some of the water to spray forcefully at trouble spots. If he had better chakra control, he'd probably be able to just use the water and force it under the paint. Kanshin was still a number of months, if not years, away from that, unfortunately.

Thanks to the water, he couldn't even read while doing this. Ugh. Scrubbing a few words off the wall, he pondered the merits of replacing all the paint in the stores with water-soluble variants instead. Again, it was beyond his currant skills, but a man could dream. 'Of course, dreaming about ways to make my current assignment easier isn't doing much for my actual progress.' Speaking of progress...

Jumping down, he placed the bucket on the ground and flashed through a few signs. The water rushed out, laden with soap, and took a form vaguely similar to himself. "Hmm. Needs some work. Oh well. Get to it." The mizu bunshin climbed up the wall, scrubbing at the graffiti with its bare hands. All in all, a bit faster than the brush. If it used too much water, he simply reformed it. After a good ten minutes, the job was done. "Well, that's that." He turned the corner to continue what was left.

Despite being careful, Kanshin was still spattered with some water. It dripped from his legs as he moved back and forth across the street. Tossing another pile of trash into an actual can, he paused for a second. "Why am I even bothering? This is a mission, not physical training." Going through his handseals again, he summoned two mizu bunshin. Since they weren't forcefully removing paint, their bodies should hold form far longer than the last one. Grinning, he pulled out his book again.

Step by step, the road started to become clearer. Not that it was filled with trash, but the footfalls of the mizu bunshin cleaned up the dirt that was laying there. A handy side effect, indeed. As the group of ragtag misfits banded together for another outing, Kanshin kept an eye out. Just because he had two bunshin on the job didn't mean the job would get done. The had little intelligence to speak of on their own, so he'd have to constantly direct them around.

Finally, the road he was assigned was clear. The few small bits of graffiti that he could spot was being dutifully attended to by the bunshins, and he could finally turn this in for some cash. It was, of course, at that exact moment that he glanced to the side and saw the filthy alleyway that connected the street he was on to the next one over. Staring for a while, he couldn't help but remark to himself. "I don't have to clean that up unless I'm assigned both streets, right?"

He didn't expect that excuse would work once he returned.

Standing in the alleyway, Kanshin readily cursed the populace responsible for such a mess. Did the city not have a plan for recycling such refuse? Was it too much trouble to actually toss the garbage into the bin in which it belongs? All this negligence only served to increase his workload. A bit of trash here and there was fine, but this? Ugh. Looking around, he made a quick decision.

The buildings were up to code, and he was confidant enough that keeping it small would pose no problems. Refilling the bucket with water, just in case, he walked up to the first pile of garbage. With a quick sneer, he went through his handseals. He felt his chakra surge in anticipation, and worked to keep it in check. Bringing his hand to his lips, he exhaled a stream of fire, igniting the trash and burning it into cinders. Pushing the remainder into a close-knit pile, he doused it and moved on.

The remainder of the alley was dealt with in a similar fashion, with only a few moments of panicked extinguishing. Once he finished, it was much easier to brush everything into a garbage bin. Another quick washing and the burnt remains were nowhere to be seen. Sighing, he took his bucket and walked off to find someone to sign his slip. He couldn't even read until his hands dried. Stupid trash.
